Manila-based militant groups to rally vs RMN

Oct. 14, 2014

DAVAO CITY – Labor groups under the militant Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) will hold a protest action in front of the national office of the Radio Mindanao Network tomorrow ” to show support for its striking workers” here in the city.

In an emailed advisory, the militant group said they will hold their protest against the “unionbusting schemes of RMN Davao” 10am tomorrow at its Makati office.

The RMN Davao Employees Union (RDEU), an affiliate of National Federation of Labor Unions under KMU (NAFLU-KMU),  is on strike since October 2 after the management refused to implement key provisions on workers’ job security contained in the collective bargaining agreement (CBA).

Media group National Union of Journalists in the Philippines (NUJP) Davao Chapter also expressed support to the RDEU in their ongoing labor strike “amidst the attack on their job security and press freedom.”

NUJP said “the workers are fighting for their livelihood, more so, for the survival of the family. Their strike is just.”

“Together with the rest of the labor force in the country, the fight of the media workers for job security should continue,” said NUJP Davao Chairperson, Jessie Casalda.

In Davao City, the protest will start at 10 am at Freedom Park along Roxas Avenue.(davaotoday.com)
