DAVAO CITY, Philippines –The newly-launched “peace journey” has set foot in Davao in its bid to reach out and spread the message of peace to the public.
As highlight of the National Peace Consciousness Month celebration, the caravan aims to “promote the culture of peace” by reaching out to the people including the conflict-affected areas in the country.
OPAPP Secretary Jesus Dureza said the caravan is set to raise the awareness of the public in terms of the government’s efforts in “improving lives and achieving peace.”
“You need to make people feel that the government is for them,” Dureza told reporters during the Davao Peace Buzz launch on Friday, September 29, at Rizal Park here.
With its sixth stop here, Dureza said the event seeks to strengthen the engagement of the people in the communities, local government officials, and civil society organizations, providing a venue to air out concerns and as well as come up with possible solutions.
He pointed that many people, especially in conflict-affected areas, feel abandoned because government projects and efforts are halted due to threats in the area.
Series of conversations with the youth and other sectors and peace forum on development projects and peace agreements were conducted in the previous stops in Luzon and Visayas.
In Davao, activities such as leadership summit, screening of peace-centered films and a unity concert dubbed as “Huni sa Kalinaw 2.0” were slated on the same date of the launching.
The Peace Buzz started on September 21 in Baguio City and toured around Quezon City, Legazpi City, Catbalogan City, Butuan City, Davao City, Cotabato City and is set to culminate in Iligan where social healing and recovery activities will be conducted for the victims of Marawi siege. A ceremonial ringing of the “Peace Gong” will also take place.(davaotoday.com)
