DAVAO CITY – A more austere government is seen as President-elect Rodrigo Duterte will prohibit field trips and seminars to Manila of government officials which he said are “purely junkets”.

“Yung mga seminar-seminar, it costs a lot of money. It’s pure junket,” Duterte told the media in a press conference held at the Matina Enclaves here, Monday, May 16.

He said it would be more cheaper if the government will cut down on holding seminars outside their cities.

“So no more seminars that the people will have to go to Manila, rather we will have the seminars in the local venue, then let the lecturers come. Makamura ako niyan (It will save me money),” he said.

Duterte also said that there will be no more Lakbay Aral (study tour) of government officials since it has not achieved anything but to use the barangay fund to go on trips.

“You know, being elected as barangay captain, barangay kagawad do not give you the right to go around the Philippines,” he said.

“Stop this business,” Duterte added.(davaotoday.com)
