DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Davao’s chocolate products are among the country’s entry to one of the most prestigious chocolate events in the world.
Chocolate manufacturers Malagos Chocolate, NutraRich Davao Fine Tablea, Rosario’s Delicacies and Auro Chocolate are set to participate in “Salon du Chocolat” on October 28 to November 1 in Paris, France.
Philippines is among the top 50 countries chosen to exhibit cocoa products in the said event, where delegates will have a chance to join other activities such as chocolate making demos, workshops and conferences.
Apart from Davao City, cocoa producers from Batangas, Bohol and South Cotabato will also be part of the Philippine delegation.
Val Turtur, Executive Director of Cacao Industry Development Association of Mindanao Inc. (CIDAMI), said this will be an opportunity for the chocolate industry in the Philippines to show its potential to the international market.
“We are targeting the European and US countries since they can offer higher prices,” Turtur told reporters on Monday, October 9.
Currently, Turtur mentioned that investors from Belgium, France and Japan have signified interest in tying up with the cacao sector here.
The Philippines has a total of 30,000 hectares cacao farms, where 26,000 hectares of it is in Davao region.
On October 2, the local government, along with the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) opened the Cacao City café to showcase local cacao products. The city aims to claim the “Chocolate capital of the Philippines” title.
Turtur said aside from the said event, they will also be attending the 4th Annual Chocolate Makers UnConference in Seattle, Washington, on November 9-12. (davaotoday.com)
