DAVAO CITY— Instead of performing only Kadayawan-inspired dances, contending groups from other Mindanao provinces who will join the Indak-indak sa Kadalanan (street dancing) will be required to show a variety of festivals from their regions.
“Our contest now here in the Kadayawan is bring your festival in Kadayawan, they are not required to perform a Kadayawan instead they will perform their festival and bring it here in Davao,” said Arnold Alvarez, chair of the Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan committee on Thursday, August 4.
There are 15 local and provincial contingents in the “Indak indak sa Kadalanan” on Saturday, August 20, where there will be only one category for each group of local and provincial contingents. Alvarez said “only one will get the grand prize.”
The entries in the local contingent are Sta. Ana National High School, Baliok Elementary School, Bolton Elementary School, Matina Central Elementary School and Francisco Bustamante National High School.
Provincial entries are Malabao National High School in Malabao, Lanao del Sur; Kapatagan National High School in Laak, Davao del Norte; Purok Sison Elementary School in Surallah, South Cotabato; Local Government Unit (LGU) of Santo Niño, South Cotabato; Camanlangan National High School of New Bataan, Compostela Valley; James L. Chiongbian National Trade School in Kiamba Sarangani Province; LGU Compostela, Compostella Valley; LGU of Polomolok and Sarmiento Central Elementary School of Parang South District Parang, Maguindanao.
Alvarez said that the street dancing competition will be held in the morning starting from Magsaysay Park to San Pedro Square. The showdown in Rizal Park will start at 1:00 pm. Street dancing and the competition would be held separately.
Alvarez said the grand winner will get P500,000; the second place P400,000; third place P300,000; fourth place P200,000 and fifth place will get P100,000.
Non-winners will also get consolation prize of P10,000. Aside from the consolation prize, Alvarez said that Davao-based contingents will be given an advance of P10,000 as their “revolving fund”.
“Outside Davao contingents will not receive the P10,000 revolving fund because they are already funded by their LGU’s while the Davao-based contingents are funded only by the parents,” Alvarez said.
The competition will have 12 judges, five of them are from the National Commission for Culture and Arts, two from the Sinulog Foundation, and the five remaining judges from the different festivals here in Mindanao.
“There will be a different group of judge for the street dancing and different group of judge in the showdown,” he said. (davaotoday.com)
