DAVAO CITY – The Davao Light and Power Co. (DLPC) announced Friday that they are extending the length of the rotating power interruptions due to the shortage in power supply.
DLPC in a statement said the duration will now be three to four hours.
“This is necessary to avoid breakdown of the entire distribution system which happens when the demand is higher than what is being supplied,” DLPC said.
DLPC said that as of Thursday, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has declared a deficiency of power supply for Mindanao at 130 megawatts (MW).
DLPC said instead of 275 MW allocation from the National Power Corporation-Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation (NPC-PSALM), they are only receiving 163 MW from the generating company.
Earlier, the STEAG State Power, Inc. has announced the implementation of Preventive Maintenance Servicing (PMS) scheduled from July 18 to August 16, on one unit of its coal-fired plant in Villanueva town, Misamis Oriental.
The other reasons cited are the reduced capability of the Pulangi and Agus Hydroelectric plants due to low water inflow.
Corporate Communications Officer Rossano Luga said the rotating power interruptions is beyond their control.
He said Davao Light “continues to implement its contingency measures in order to mitigate the impact of the supply shortage.”
DLPC is running its standby Bajada Power Plant, optimizing on its embedded Sibulan and Talomo Hydropower plants and supply agreement with TMI, and activating its Interruptible Load Program, said Luga.
