DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The Davao City government has implemented a lockdown on two communities as a preemptive measure to contain the spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).
“There is a need to put the communities into lockdown because the area is densely populated. We know once an area is densely populated, the spread of the virus is fast”, Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said during a radio interview on April 23, Wednesday.
Duterte-Carpio identified the areas Barangay Leon Garcia in Agdao District and a purok (sub-village) in Barangay Daliao, Toril District.
Earlier, the city has locked down Puroks 3, 4, and 7 in Barangay 23-C after 56 individuals were brought to a Persons Under Investigation Center for quarantine. A separate lockdown was enforced in Purok 8 in Barangay 21-C.
Barangay 23-C has a population of at least 16,489 while Barangay 21-C has a population of 7,478, data from the City Planning and Development Office said.
The mayor explained that in order to contain the virus in densely populated areas, residents are not allowed to go in and out of the area while Food and Medicine pass is canceled.
There will also be no entry of delivery services and only the city government will ensure the delivery of food and other essentials to the residents. (davaotoday.com)
