DAVAO CITY — The Soroptimist International has extended a cancer detection clinic and free vaccination against cervical cancer.
Dr. Teresita Borillo, president of the chapter here of the Soroptomist International said the free anti-cervical cancer vaccination campaign is their new program, which also focuses on the plight of women on domestic violence and personal health.
Borillo said that the anti-cervical cancer vaccine is a lifetime immunity especially for ages 9 years old to 60 years old.
In other clinics, Borillo said that they are giving it for free since the vaccine is expensive for women.
The vaccine bivalent costs P1,500 each.
She said that the anti-cervical cancer vaccine usually fit for women who are sexually active.
“We emphasize more on those women who are sexually active since you can get the virus by contact,” she said.
Borillo said that there are already 31 recipients from different barangays including Matina Pangi, Lanang area, and students of the Sunday high school in Assumption College of Davao.
“We already targeted housewives, younger groups and the project is still ongoing,” she said.
To avail of the free vaccines, Borillo said that patients should attend the forum and lecture to know the importance of the anti-cervical cancer vaccine.
“After the forum, your particular barangay will be the one to recommend on who will be the recipient. We will base it on the financial status of the patient, the check-up will be free also since we have a clinic,” she said.
Currently the group is making arrangements with the Davao City National High School (DCNHS) to conduct a forum on awareness on cervical cancer.(davaotoday.com)
