DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The City Government of Davao is considering using the RT-PCR test kits in their “intensified case findings” of Covid-19 cases in certain areas in Davao City.
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said they are considering this option with local health officials as they noted the use of rapid test kits is not reliable.
The city government has conducted intensified case findings but used rapid test kits. They scheduled case findings on Wednesday, May 7, on food delivery workers, May 8 in Agdao Public Market, May 11 at Buhangin checkpoint, May 13 will be on Talomo South, May 14 at New Valencia, and May 15 at the Davao International Airport area and Tigatto.
The case findings are conducted in areas with high reports of Covid-19 cases.
Davao City has now reported 143 cases of Covid-19 infections with 69 recoveries and 19 deaths, according to the Department of Health update as of May 7.
The DOH and health groups have recommended the use of RT-PCR tests as it gives a definite diagnosis. They point out that rapid test kits only measure a patient’s antibodies through the sample with low processing time.
Mayor Duterte explained that the case findings are using the rapid test kits as it is better than doing nothing. (davaotoday.com)
