DAVAO CITY— The City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council is prepared to respond to disasters, including the threat from the incoming La Niña wet season disasters.
Emmanuel Jaldon, chief of the Emergency Response Unit said the CDRRMC is already operating well.
Jaldon said they already put up electronic and manual sirens in every barangay as part of their measures on preparedness.
As for the areas of evacuation, he said, that every barangay has its own designated evacuation center.
“The facilities should be suited a number of persons,” he said. He said that the city has adequate number of well-trained responders coming from different clusters.
Responders include teams from the Civil Security System Unit (CSSU) who are in charge on shelters and the Philippine National Police (PNP) for security.
Moreover, the responders, he said have their regular trainings and they also have schedules in barangays to train the people on disaster response.
On July 22, the CDRRMC will also conduct a full-scale exercise.
“This involves actually earthquake and tsunami exercise, major players will be coming to in play a ball in this activity,” he said.
‘Prepare your kits’
During disasters Jaldon said families living near the coastline, riverbanks and other flood-prone areas should have prepared their kits with three-day supply of food, first-aid kit, important files secured in plastic and any type of radio to keep them informed.
“All of these must be put in a place of your house where you can easily access when an early signal will be delivered,” he said. (davaotoday.com)
