TAGUM CITY— Heavy rains brought by a low pressure area (LPA) spotted east of Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur Wednesday caused major rivers in Davao del Norte to swell and displaced 158 families in the town of Asuncion.

A report from Davao del Norte’s Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Council (PDRRMC) as of 8:00 AM today said evacuees in Asuncion now stands at 158 families or 790 people, 48 of them are staying along the road in Dona Andrea while the remaining 110 families are from Barangay Sta. Felomina.

Romulo Tagalo, OIC of the PDRRMC, told DavaoToday that seven barangays of Kapalong and Tagum  have been severely flooded, namely Barangays Sagayen, Dona Andrea, Canatan, Cambanogoy, Napungas and Sta. Filomena.

Floods also hit some parts of Carmen, Davao del Norte. PDRRMC technical staffs are doing the rounds of measuring water levels in affected areas.

The disaster unit estimated some 3,248 families or 16,240 individual have been affected by the flooding.

“The local governments units affected of the flooding have started to distribute food packs for the identified families and the PDRRMC await their call for possible augmentation of any assistance that we could extend to the LGUs,” Tagalo said.

As of this posting, Libuganon river is subsiding but Saug river remains swelled although water discharge is fast than normal.

Davao del Norte Governor Rodulfo Del Rosario activated the Incident Command System yesterday in response to the flooding incident occurring at some parts of the province.
