TAGUM CITY — Some 21,000 scouts joined the week-long 16th National Scout Jamboree of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines in Tagum City.
Mayor Allan L. Rellon, who also serves as the camp chief of the Jamboree, said that preparations and contingency plans are on full swing, especially on maintaining peace and order.
Rellon said that 575 security personnel will be deployed in strategic areas and in Energy Park, the main venue of the Jamboree.
Aside from Filipino Scouts from 118 local councils nationwide, 100 scouts from 10 countries will also participate as visiting delegations, which include India, Nepal, Ghana, Singapore, Malaysia, among others.

BINOY. Two Scouts clad in their usual uniform have joined “Binoy,” the official mascot of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines, as it debut at the 16th BSP National Jamboree in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.
IN PENSIVE MOOD. A Scout from Nepal listens intently to the instructions of the masters of ceremony.
DURIAN & SELFIE. Delegates from Cavite take a ‘groufie’ after eating durian for the first time. Durian fruits are sold by ambulant vendors for P15 per kilo near the entrance gate of Energy Park, the venue for this year’s 16th BSP National Jamboree.
TENT CITY. Tagum’s Energy Park, a sprawling 19,580 hectares of green field, has morphed into a tent city as 21, 000 delegates coming from different parts of the Philippines and other countries including Nepal, Taiwan, South Korea, Indonesia and Malaysia have converged in Tagum City for the 16th BSP National Jamboree.
FREE TIME. Scouts are spending their free time in E-park’s tunnel as last minute preparations for the Saturday’s Grand Opening Ceremony are being conducted.
PEDAL. A scout pedals a mechanical tricycle carrying gallons of drinking water for the consumption of their whole camp.
MONUMENT. One of the major highlights of the 16th BSP National Jamboree is the unveiling of the “Dahon Monument” which recognizes the noble contributions of the scouting movement in the country as far as nation-building is concerned.
SCRAP ARTWORKS. Two creative artworks of what appears to be a buffalo made of scrap metals have been an attraction to both delegates and onlookers inside the Energy Park in Tagum City.
PACMAN. Sarangani Representative Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao is mobbed by delegates when he surprisingly arrived at the 16th BSP Grand Opening Ceremony in Tagum City. BINAY. Vice President Jejomar Binay, in his capacity as the BSP National President, has graced the Grand Opening Ceremony of the 16th BSP National Jamboree. Binay arrived Saturday afternoon together with his UNA senatorial bets, Manny Pacquaio and former Philippine National Police (PNP) Special Action Force (SAF) chief General Getulio Napeñas Jr.
SNUBBED. Unlike Vice-President Jejomar Binay and Sarangani solon Manny Pacquiao, former SAF chief Getulio Napeñas Jr. did not receive quite an attention from the crowd when he attended the Grand Opening Ceremony of the 16th BSP National Jamboree in Tagum City.
