DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Various sectors are set to hold protest actions here Friday to express indignation over the burial of former President Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani last week.

A young student leader here said moving on over the issue of the hasty burial of the former dictator is not an option for them.

“Some people say that we should move on about the issue of Martial Law. But how will we move on if there is still no justice for the victims, even their bodies were not found until now,” said Megue Monteverde, president of Buklurang Atenista told Davao Today in an interview.

Over 50 anti-Marcos protesters joined a rally in front of the  Ateneo de Davao University on Wednesday, Nov. 23 to condemn the sneaky burial of the former dictator at the Heroes’ Cemetery.

“We will not let the Marcoses  use the burial issue to return to Malacañang.  That is why we firmly say that Marcos is not a hero and he should not be buried in the Heroes’ Cemetery,” she said.

The 21-year old young protester who was not yet born during the Marcosian rule explained that their active participation is to help the public not to forget the history of the struggle of the people.

“We will not let the people forget the martial law,” she said.

Monteverde said their protest will continue on Friday, Nov. 25 3:30 p.m. at Freedom Park together with different sectors for the “National Day of Unity and Rage Against Marcos Hero’s Burial.” (davaotoday.com)
