The Mindanao Interfaith Services Foundation Inc. (MISFI) will hold an inter-municipal peace gathering on its 25th founding anniversary on June 23, 2008 at the Teresian Daughters of Mary (TDM) retreat house, Matina, Davao City.
With the theme: Three visions, one direction, the gathering aims to solicit similar and diverse views and experiences on peace from 11 municipalities in different regions of Mindanao. This momentous gathering will draw around 200 from different people’s organizations (POs), barangay and municipal local government units (LGUs), church groups and other members of the civil society.
Among the invited guest speakers are Davao City mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte, MILF head of the secretariat Jun Montawi, Bayan Muna partylist vice-chairperson Joel Virador, United Church of Christ in the Philippines bishop Anacleto Serafica and International Committee of the Red Cross field officer Richard Cubeta.
The activity is part of the two year ‘action-repair’ project dubbed Rebuilding Pathways towards Integrated Peace and Development for the Uprooted People in Mindanao being implemented by MISFI in 39 communities within the five regions of Mindanao.
The project is designed to help uprooted communities to become disaster resilient by way of providing livelihood projects, improving their capacities and peace advocacy. It is assisted by the European Union through its Delegation of the European Commission to the Philippines.
The forum also hopes to unify the stakeholders towards peace by manifesting a unity statement on peace and pushing for recommendations to strengthen peace in their respective areas of concern. The endeavor is MISFI’s humble contribution to continuing efforts of the different sectors of the society in achieving a just and lasting peace.
