MANILA — Supporting efforts to have an honest and peaceful election, leading wireless services provider Smart Communications, Inc. (SMART) has teamed up with top broadcast firm GMA New Media, Inc. to provide text services that will equip subscribers with news, tips and reminders for the May 14 polls.
Significant voter turn-out is expected on election day at 37,872 precincts nationwide. Until May 14, SMART subscribers may receive mobile alerts such as election tips, rules, and warnings on possible anomalies that might occur on the voting day.
Following are sample tips received via SMS:
* Hindi maaaring bumoto ang taong may indelible ink na.
* Ang mga may kapansanan lamang ang maaaring may escort sa loob ng voting booth
* Bawal ang panunuhol o vote-buying.
To receive tips, SMART and Talk N Text subscribers should simply key in TIPS and send to 367. Each transaction costs P2.50. No registration is required for this service.
Subscribers can also text BITBIT to receive a list of the things they must bring when they vote. To know important contact numbers during the election, they can text DIRECTORY to the same access number, 367. To see a complete list of candidates, just text the senatorial party name such as GO, UNITY, KBL, KAPATIRAN, INDIE, PGRP and send to to 367. For a complete listing of services, key in BOTO.

One of the useful services available is a complete list of senatorial candidates that subscribers can receive through text to help them decide who to vote for. This service will also allow voters to know the complete name of the candidates and their corresponding senatorial team.
Subscribers simply need to choose the senatorial party they wish to get a complete list of and type the corresponding keyword – UNITY for Team Unity, GO for Genuine Opposition, KBL for Kilusang Bagong Lipunan, PGRP for Philippine Green Republican Party, KAPATIRAN, and INDIE for a list of the independent candidates – and send to 367. No registration is required for the service, which costs P2.50 per transaction.
For subscribers who want to keep themselves updated on who are leading in the senatorial race, another service is available. By texting COUNT and sending to 4627, subscribers receive quick count results for the senatorial race five times a day, assuring subscribers of the latest results. Each update costs P2.50. To stop receiving updates, subscribers simply need to text COUNT OFF to 4627.
Subscribers can also text BITBIT to receive a list of the things they must bring when they vote.
