MANILA — Womens partylist group Babae para sa Kaunlaran (BABAE KA) has hailed the election victory of Catholic priest Ed Panlilio in the province of Pampanga calling it as a triumph of principles over money-politics.
Ruth Vasquez, president of BABAE KA, also described Panlilios win as a peaceful revolution of the Cabalens against decades of gambling and graft and corruption.
BABAE KA also called on the Filipino people to emulate the Pampanga experience by electing somebody comparable to Father Ed Panlilio to the presidency in 2010.
It is time for real change in the countrys political landscape, and the Pampanga experience is something that is a very good example that must serve as a starting point, Vasquez said.
The Filipinos must now be very discerning relative to the presidential candidates in 2010. That should become a battle of programs of government and not of media advertisements, Vasquez added.
BABAE KA said that a law must be passed by Congress putting a limit to campaign expenses to enable candidates and parties with genuine pro-people platforms to be at par with candidates with money and resources.
