Several vendors occupying an overpass in Quezon City protested against the Zero Vending Policy on the third day of Pope Francis’ visit.
According to Diamond Kalaw, leader of Sandiganbayan Vendors Association small vendors along the overpass of Litex, Sandiganbayan and Don Antonio are prohibited from selling since the second week of January.
Half of the 300 vendors are Muslims, said Kalaw, while the remaining are Christians.
The vendors held a noise barrage using empty caseroles and plates to symbolize their hunger because of the temporary loss of livelihood.
Kalaw said vendors in Luneta Park were also asked to leave this morning in preparation of the Pope’s mass on Sunday.
