DAVAO CITY, Philippines –The city government here awarded 30 members of the Task Group Falcon following the apprehension of Cayamora Maute and four others in a checkpoint in Sirawan, Toril, Davao City.
During Tuesday’s flag raising ceremony at the City Hall, June 27, City Administrator Atty. Zuleika Lopez handed over certificates of appreciation to the 24 present members of the TG Falcon headed by Group Commander Lt. Col. Nestor Mondia.
“We say thank you to the members of Task Group Davao Falcon for a job well done,” Lopez said.
It can be recalled that on June 6, Mondia and his team nabbed Cayamora Maute, the head of the Maute clan, and four others while boarding a black Toyota Hi-Ace Grandia.
The security forces also confiscated a total of P353,000 cash, a loaded .45 pistol, several fake identification cards and a hand grenade in the said vehicle. The Maute patriarch and his four companions are currently jailed in Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.
In a statement, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte lauded the group and said that it was an important development in the fight against terrorism.
“We commend the entire Task Force Davao Team for always being alert, for their hard work, and for their unquestionable dedication to keep Davao City and the Dabawenyos safe from terrorists like the Maute brothers,” Duterte said.
TF Davao Commander Col. Erwin Bernard Neri said that out of the 30 troops, about 20 are Special Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit Active Auxiliary (SCAA).
“Not all are candidates for promotion, only the four immediate security personnel (regular soldiers) which caught Maute and his companions. During that time, there were thirty of them in the area, and they were the ones given certificates of appreciation by the city Mayor,” Neri said.
Neri said that the certificates given to the troop is the local government’s way of giving recognition to the soldiers and the SCAA who have made the accomplishment.
Neri added that the Armed Forces of the Philippines will also be giving awards to the members Task Group Falcon. Neri assured the Dabawenyos that Task Force Davao in coordination with other security forces will continue to intensify security measures in the city.
“Here in Davao City, security forces are on heightened alert and we continue to intensify monitoring to ensure that we are secured and safe here in the city,” Neri said.(davaotoday.com)
