DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The satellite registration of voters in Indigenous People’s (IP) communities in Davao region was formally launched on Monday, September16 the Commission on Elections in the area (Comelec-XI) said.
The series of registration activities will last until Friday, September 20.
“Today we celebrate our Indigenous People registration week so we will be having satellite registration for our IP brothers and sisters,” Atty. Krisna Samantha Caballero spokesperson of Comelec-XI told reporters in the sidelines of their mall satellite registration on Monday at SM City Davao.
According to Caballero, who takes charge for the first district of the city, the IP registration under her jurisdiction shall commence at the Datu Loho in Barangay Ma-a where most Kagan tribe members in the city reside.
The exact venue is at Datu Loho Gym.
She added that other districts in the city will have their own schedules for the IP registration week.
“We will give priority to the Lumads in the area because of our IP registration week. But we will also cater to non-Lumads who wish to register in different areas,” Caballero clarified.
She also told reporters that around 10,000 voters were registered under his district weeks before the September 30 deadline for the Comelec registration for the 2020 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).
Other upcoming satellite registrations for the said district include Barangay Catalunan Pequeño on September 18; Barangay Matina Crossing on September 19; Barangay Talomo Poblacion on September 20; and, Barangay Dumoy on September 24.
Caballero also said they will have a satellite registration for the Senior High School students of Ateneo de Davao University set on September 21.
She added that they are also working on a request of the Camp Quintin M. Merecido in Catitipan for a satellite registration.
“The police also requested us for a satellite registration. We still have to check on the availability of our schedule. Also, if there is only a small number from the group, we can just request them to go instead to our office and register there,” Caballero said.
She added that they are working that a week before the end of the registration, they are planning to have the registration within their office in Magsaysay Park. (davaotoday.com)
