DAVAO CITY – Davao City Mayor Duterte was lectured on Christian values by Catholic leaders here after a meeting Friday.
Duterte met with Archbishop of Davao, Archbishop Romulo Valles and Bishop George Rimando, Auxialiary Bishop of Davao together with Monsignor Paul Cuison
“I was admonished and lectured on Christian Values and in return, I told them that I would lessen my use of cuss words,” said Duterte.
Duterte was met by the bishops at 2:00 pm. The meeting went on for an hour.
After the meeting, Duterte said he accepted the reminders from the church leaders and said that he would be “guarding” his talks.
Duterte made headlines after his speech during his proclamation Monday where he uttered expletives, which did not spared Pope Francis when he commented on a traffic jam due to the Pope’s visit last January.
“I am even regulating myself and will donate P1,000 to Caritas Davao every time I would swear,” he said.
“I am also planning to visit the Vatican soon. It was a good meeting and I would like to thank my friends in the Church for their time,” he said.
“I am a member of this flock. I only have one God,” said Duterte. (davaotoday.com)
