DAVAO CITY – The Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) officially declared Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Alan Peter Cayetano as its presidential and vice presidential bets for the 2016 elections at the Century Park Hotel in Manila, Monday.
During his more than an hour speech, Duterte bared his stand on national issues including the West Philippine sea dispute, crime, and corruption.
Duterte also said his political rivals are using his personal life as a means to discredit him.
Duterte last Friday withdrew his certificate of candidacy for mayor at the Commission on Elections office here. His COC for president was filed a few minutes after by a representative at the Comelec office in Intramuros, Manila.
Duterte’s daughter Sara will be replacing him as a mayoral candidate in Davao City.
Duterte took the place of PDP-Laban presidential candidate Martin Diño, who filed his COC for president on October 16.
Duterte has been reluctant to run as president. However, on November 21 Duterte announced that he is running for president after the Senate Electoral Tribunal favored presidential candidate Senator Grace Poe in her disqualification case. (davaotoday.com)
