Davao City – Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte hinted that President Benigno Aquino III will arrive during the 2nd Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Trade Fair and Business Leaders’ Conference from Oct. 22-26.
“I think the president is coming on the 23rd,” Duterte said during his weekly program Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa Sunday.
The city has readied the security for the hosting of two international events this week, including the ICT (Information and Communications Technology) Summit on Oct. 24.
The city mayor is also expected to attend the event.
He said that the city will ensure the security of everybody.
“We have to augment our warm bodies on the ground including the police and military and I will be strict because we have visitors,” Duterte said.
“They must be comfortable while in Davao City,” he said.
“They will not be robbed, they will not be touched. And that there’s no disturbance,” Duterte said.
Duterte also expected protest actions from the progressive groups under Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan).
Davao City chief of police, Vicente Danao, said that security measures have been prepared wherein more than 2,000 members of security forces are to be deployed.
The BIMP-EAGA fair is expected to bring in 200,000 visitors with an estimate of $64 million worth of transactions to be generated.
Various agricultural products like processed bangus, live crabs, dried fruits, and coconut products will be displayed in around 50 booths for the BIMP countries.
The activity aims to promote sub-region products and services to the regional and global market in preparation for the upcoming economic integration of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). (davaotoday.com)
