TAGUM CITY , Philippines — This early, Tagum City Mayor Rey Uy said he is aiming for the vice governor seat in the first district of Davao del Norte in 2019.
“I will run for vice-governor in the 2019 elections,” Uy told DavaoToday in a phone interview on Tuesday.
He said that he would be running under the regional political party Hugpong ng Pagbabago led by Presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.
Uy said he believes in political reforms being pushed by the HNP.
Pressed on further what inspired him to run, Uy said he wants to implement his best programs when he served as the local chief executive of Tagum City to other local government units.
He also expressed confidence that he has the backing of the local mayors in Davao del Norte province.
“My performance as Tagum City Mayor which is acknowledged by all local government units in Davao del Norte will be enough basis for me to run,” Uy said, adding that the vice-governor position is unopposed.
Before the 2016 presidential elections, Uy was a staunch ally of the Liberal Party, but he eventually abandoned his post as the chairperson of LP’s chapter in Tagum City to support President Rodrigo Duterte who was the former Davao City Mayor.
Uy is now a member of Duterte’s HNP which was formed with other Mindanao political leaders namely: Davao Occidental Governor Claude Bautista, Davao del Norte Governor Anthony del Rosario, Compostela Valley Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy, and Davao Oriental Nelson Dayanghirang.(davaotoday.com)
