DAVAO CITY – Partylist representative Luzviminda Ilagan said the political mudslinging among aspiring candidates in the 2016 elections has become a distraction that would benefit only President Benigno Aquino.
Ilagan, in a statement Thursday, said “the 2016 squabbling among aspiring candidates for the top positions in this country has taken much of the people and the media’s attention.”
“Kung may higit mang nakikinabang sa mga bangayan at pasikatan ng mga nagnanais tumakbo sa 2016, ito ay ang pangulo (If there is someone who benefits most from this arguments and grandstanding among those who want to run in 2016, it is the President),” Ilagan said.
Ilagan said there are more important issues needing accountability from the government which has been sidelined by the politicians. Among the issues she cited were “the botched Mamasapano incident; the labor code violations, the demand for justice for the Kentex fire victims; the delayed assistance for Mary Jane Veloso and the neglect of migrant workers in death row; the illegal Disbursement Acceleration Program and the neglect of Yolanda survivors.”
Ilagan said that candidates seeking elective posts in 2016 “should veer away from mudslinging, stop destroying another’s credibility and instead build on their own credibility by taking definite positions on very important issues and heeding the people’s calls for accountability.”
