People’s organizations from Southern Tagalog believe that the removal of Pres. Benigno S. Aquino III and the creation of a transition council will be the answer to the current political crisis.
Nestor Villanueva, spokesperson of ST REMOVE Aquino, said that the “overwhelming basis” to call for the president’s resignation include: the direct hand of the US government in the Mamasapano clash which Pres. Aquino allowed; public-private partnership programs; cash doleouts, deregulation of basic social services; and the discretionary handling of funds in the national budget
“Now, it is legitimate to call for Aquino’s resignation and to call for the creation of a government that will truly be loyal to whom sovereignty resides – the people,” Villanueva said.
The Transition Council will be represented by various people’s organizations and groups involved in Aquino’s ouster. They will be in charge of instituting immediate reforms and preparing for elections.
