DAVAO CITY – The Traffic Management Center (TMC) will put up an outpost on top of a high point near Barangay Langub, Davao City as an added measure to curb rising cases of vehicular accidents in the area.

Superintendent Rhodelio Poliquit, chief of the TMC says the outpost will be built at the junction of the Carlos P. Garcia Highway (Diversion) Road and Barangay Langub.

Poliquit said the outpost will be manned by police and traffic personnel 24 hours a day and will be tasked “to check brakes” and “enforce the speed limit.”

The Davao City Speed Limit Ordinance sets a maximum of 60 kilometers per hour along the Diversion Road.

“Hugtan gyud and Diversion Road nga kinahanglan visible ang trapik. Dapat mabantayan sa mga travelers nato na naay accident prone area sa unahan, (It is necessary that traffic personnel are visible in the Diversion Road and travelers should be warned that the road ahead is accident-prone),” Poliquit said adding that additional signage will also be built in the area.

Poliquit said that from January to April this year, they already recorded 14 deaths that resulted from accidents in the traffic stretch.

The recent accident in the area occurred last April 12 wherein eight died and 6 others were injured. The accident involved 2 trucks, a utility vehicle and a motorcycle.

The Diversion Road is an alternate highway usually taken by supply and cargo trucks and those who want to avoid heavy traffic congestion of the city center.

Meanwhile, Poliquit said that they are already prepared to reduce congestions in church places around the city on Holy Week.

Poliquit said that starting Monday, 182 TMC personnel will be deployed to monitor more or less 20 catholic churches to monitor and control traffic.

“There will be road closures and minor rerouting in time for processions,” said Poliquit. (davaotoday.com)
