DAVAO CITY — The camp of Presidential bet Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said they received reports of vote-buying that occurred since yesterday up to today’s national elections.

Duterte’s spokesperson Peter Laviña said that in Agusan del Sur, the administration party checked on the voters’ receipts.

“The voters are given a certain amount of money if they really voted for the party’s candidates,” he said.

Laviña said that it is “very clear” that these are illegal acts, and should be reported and taken into action by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

“I don’t know what the Comelec is doing about it,” he said, urging that voters be vigilant.

Meanwhile, Laviña said that one concern for the election is the vote transmission.

“The election as of now appears to be generally okay. But the worry would be the transmission–if all the Vote Counting Machines will be able to transmit all the votes that are counted to the central reporting units, at the canvassing units, in the city, provincial and national levels,” he said.

He said that another problem is if the Comelec will be able to respond to election concerns and reports.

It is important that such concerns are properly recorded and documented when needed to be filed, Laviña added.

He said that as of the first few voting hours, they have received reports of machine jams and power interruptions which are now being taken cared of.

“We have been reminding voters. We are also happy that the (Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voters), the Comelec and other watchdog groups are reminding our voters to vote properly,” Laviña said.

He added that reports of malfunctioning machines in several polling areas are being attended to.

“We are happy that members of our Board of Elections Inspectors as well as the technical support that are assigned in their areas are immediately trying to correct these machines,” he said.(davaotoday.com)
