DAVAO CITY – A militant partylist lawmaker assailed the Liberal Party for tagging along its standard bearer, Mar Roxas during a relief operation in Northern Samar on Wednesday.
Anakpawis Partylist Rep. Fernando Hicap said “calamity victims don’t need Roxas or any high ranking government officials”.
“They need adequate services, fast relief and rehabilitation work, not high profile relief stunt which is clearly part of the Aquino administration’s premature campaigning in favor of their presidential bet Mar Roxas.”
President Benigno Aquino III has ordered government agencies to fast track rehabilitation work in Northern Samar which was devastated by Typhoon “Nona”.
The group has criticized further the Aquino administration “for not having a sense of urgency to help typhoon Nona victims who mostly affected the provinces of Northern Samar, Sorsogon, Mindoro, Bulacan and Nueva Ecija”.
“This administration truly never learned from the deadly and destructive effects of previous typhoons especially typhoon Yolanda. It continues to make a lackluster performance in terms of speedy relief and construction effort, ” said Hicap.
“Many families of typhoon Nona victims will spend this Yuletide season in evacuation areas, adding to their burden is the slow delivery of services from the government to help them get back on their feet,” Hicap added. (davaotoday.com)
