‘US, China hands off ASEAN’ –ILPS Phils

Aug. 04, 2015

DAVAO CITY – The local chapter of an international human rights group warned against  the “meddling” of US and China as the 48th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ meeting started.

The International League of Peoples’ Struggle – Philippine chapter (ILPS-Phils) claimed that “Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin said to not discuss the dispute on South China Sea” on the said meeting.

“On the other hand, US State Secretary John Kerry would also be in Kuala Lumpur,” the ILPS-Phils added.

The group said that US has “increased its military activities in the disputed area along with Japan newly-arming beyond self-defense and with Asean governments, including the Philippines, with several security arrangements with the US.”

“The Asean [Association of South-East Asian Nations] peoples, more than 600 million in all, are being squeezed out between these two big bullies who are not even members of the region,” ILPS-Phils said.

However, the group said that they are confident that people in the region will resist the acts of aggression and intervention in the Asean. (davaotoday.com)
