Workers hit non-implementation of GMA and Tanduay NLRC rulings

DAVAO CITY – Militant labor group Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) led a picket in front of the National Labor Relations Commission office in Quezon City on Monday to condemn the non-implementation of the agency’s ruling ordering giant television network GMA-7 to regularize 107 of its contractual workers.

KMU also decried the non-implementation of a similar decision by the Department of Labor and Employment Region IV-A regularizing 103 contractual workers of rhum-maker Tanduay Distillers, Inc.

KMU in a statement said the non-implementation of the rulings “show how the country’s laws favor capitalists, in allowing big businesses to deny justice to workers by appealing decisions and delaying final judgement.”

“Capitalists continue to enjoy impunity in violating workers’ rights. Instead of upholding workers’ rights, they continue to inflict repression upon workers who are fighting for their right to become regulars,” KMU chairperson Elmer Labog added.

Labog said they will hold a protest march against contractualization on July 13.(davaotoday.com)
