DAVAO CITY – Councilor Leah Librado-Yap on Tuesday, April 12, said she remains to be against the approval of the P40-billion Mega Harbour reclamation project over claims that families nearby would be dispossessed of their properties.
“I still voted no because I still want to see the implementation of this particular project. I don’t want to compromise those who will lose their homes,” Librado said.
Librado is the lone city councilor who opposes the project that will cover the Sta. Ana wharf to Bucana area, which ends at the Davao Gulf where the Davao River flows.
Her opposition comes even after a memorandum of agreement between the local government and the private company behind the project stated that residents could demand for a relocation from the developer.
While concerns on the relocation has been settled, she said she just wants to ensure that it will be implemented.
“We ensure that they will be relocated regardless if they pass the census tagging or not, they must be relocated onsite,” she said.
The project is a joint venture between the City Government of Davao and Mega Harbour Development Corporation owned by Renghis Romero II.
The proposal to implement the reclamation project gained an approval at the city council on its third and final reading. 17 councilors voted yes, except for Librado. (davaotoday.com)
