DAVAO CITY – The feeling of excitement in embarking on a new journey took over the Davaoeños who attended the Campus IDP Study in Australia and New Zealand Expo 2016 held at the Pinnacle Hotel Suites here on Tuesday, March 15.
The event was presented by IDP Education, an international student placement services for 45 years.
“Last year, IDP brought Flight IDP to Davao. This year we bring you Campus IDP, more on relating how it feels like a freshman in a new campus,” said IDP Education Marketing Manager, Ada Lopez.
And it was like enrolling as a freshman in a new university as interested applicants were given a “School Book” which guides them on the application procedure and the list of schools.
The Davao-based Madayaw Cheer Revolution also performed during the opening of the exhibit area together with the IDP mascot, David Pablo.
The participating universities during the expo include schools from New Zealand: ACG-Academic Colleges Group, Cornell Institute of Business and Technology, Ntec Tertiary Group, and Unitec Institute of Technology; and from Australia: Charles Darwin University, Charlton Brown, Chisholm Institute, Kaplan Business School Australia, La Trobe University, Le Cordon Bleu, Monash University, University of Newcastle, and the University of Southern Queensland.
The participants were also a mix of young and old.
Ellen Recaplaza, 25 and a college student from Sasa, Davao City said the event helps her in gaining access to pursue her dream to become a computer technician.
“I can have a bigger opportunity because they have advanced facilities,” she said.
Rosemarie, 57 said she plans to pursue postgraduate studies related to her background as a civil engineer. If given the opportunity, Rosemarie said she will take a course on hydraulics engineering to a school offering a program on it.
“It will help not just me but the country. We really need to improve our water resources management,” she said.
Lopez said as a world leader in student placement services, IDP has already processed 400,000 students “who are now in our partner institutions”.
“We place students 1 in every 25 minutes, so that’s an impressive figure if you ask me,” she said.
Campus IDP Study in Australia and New Zealand Expo 2016 opened in Manila on March 12 and in Cebu on March 13.
Ria Dela Viña, country director of IDP in the Philippines said Davao is one of the key cities they choose, since it is among those cities where the “biggest opportunities in terms of student interest are”.
“We try to keep a consistent presence here,” she said, adding that IDP Education hosts the schools twice a year in the country.
Lopez encouraged the Davaoeños to join them in their next events.
“They shouldn’t miss this opportunity because it’s not everyday that these schools are all together in one area, in one venue to talk to them,” she said. (davaotoday.com)
