DAVAO CITY, Philippines — A new promotional video of the city will soon be presented in four cities of Japan as part of Davao’s Investment Roadshow this October.
The video “Yokoso e’ Davao” (Welcome to Davao) is a tourism video which will be part of a roadshow campaign to entice more tourists and investors from Osaka, Kyoto, Tokyo and Yokohama.
Rudolph Ian Alama, festival director of the Mindanao Film Festival, is the brain behind the video which he posted on his Facebook account on Friday, October 13.
The video had a narrator who is describing the city’s warmth. Alama said the narrator is Davao-based doctor Karen Nakashima, a Filipino-Japanese.
“She did the translation from the original language script,” Alama shared to Davao Today.
He said he wanted to describe the city through the eyes of a Japanese living in Davao City.
“It’s like an intimate portrait of the city, like how you would email your friend and tell them how beautiful it is to be where you are,” Alama said.
The video shows snippets of the visit of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and First Lady Akie Abe in the city this January.
The video was written and directed by Alama together with his team in Davao-based video production company Lou Works Studios. It was a project of the City Tourism Operations Office and the Davao City Investment and Promotions Center.
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said Japan is among the top foreign markets that the city is set to focus and “prioritize” in terms of tourism promotions.
The Japanese government and some private organizations have already inked joint ventures with the city government, including the solid waste management “Grassroot Project”, a biodiesel plant, the Davao-Samal bridge project, and the Mindanao Railway project. (davaotoday.com)
