DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The city government on Thursday announced the winners of the Hulagway photo contest for the Araw ng Dabaw 2017.
Photographers Jesus Tinapay, Climaco Cane, and John Francis Angeles won first, second and third prizes, respectively out of 200 entries.
The judges chose the top three best photos based on composition (30 percent), creativity (30 percent), originality (30 percent) and relevance to the theme (10 percent).
Tinapay’s “Kaway Nanay” won him P15,000 for showing elderly women in one of the floats during the Parada Dabawenyo on March 16.
“The photo also perfectly captured the central theme of the celebration — Davao City’s journey the past 80 years,” a City Information Office dispatch said. This year’s theme was “Stand Tall, United, Resilient.”
Cane’s entry “Dabawenya Beauties” shows the contestants of the Mutya ng Davao during the pageant night while Angeles’ “Lipay, Leap High Davao!” captured the performance of one of the dancers in the street. Cane and Angeles will receive P 10,000 and P 5,000, respectively.
Mayor Sara Duterte also chose the photo Malipayong Dabawenyo by photographer Jerson Flores. He will receive P 3,000 cash for the special prize.
Aside from the three top winners, 17 runners-up were also named, each receiving a cash prize of P 1,500. (davaotoday.com)
