DAVAO CITY – The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has advised a further reduction of the power supply in Mindanao from yesterday’s 60 MW to 130 MW on Tuesday.
The Davao Light and Power Company said the situation has forced them to increase again the duration of its rotating power interruption from a maximum of one hour to two hours.
“The peak demand on Tuesday for the entire Davao Light franchise is expected to reach as high as 325 MW. Hence, there’s still a huge shortage despite the power supply that Davao Light gets from Sibulan & Talomo Hydropower Plants, Therma Marine Inc., and its standby Bajada Power Plant,” DLPC said in a statement.
Customers are advised to expect rotating power interruptions even during off-peak hours, which is from 12:00 midnight to 8:00 am and from 8 pm to 12 mn.
“The implementation, however, will only be for a maximum of one-hour and only as a last resort should there be shortage during these hours,” said DLPC.
With the unstable power situation, DLPC said the duration of the rotating power interruptions may increase or decrease depending on the level of curtailment imposed by the NGCP at any given time of the day and the variability of the load of Davao Light relative to the time of the day.
The DLPC said “everyone is encouraged to be prudent in the use of energy to help minimize the effects of the current power situation.” (davaotoday.com)
