DAVAO CITY — The Bureau of Soils Water Management has started cloud seeding operations in the region, an official of the Department of Agriculture 11 said.
In a Philippine Information Agency dispatch, Remelyn Recoter, regional director of the DA XI said that cloud seeding operations have started in Davao del Norte area since April 4.
She said the operations “resulted to rains in Maco, Compostela Valley and Tagum City that day.”
The DA official also explained that the bureau has allotted 45 flying hours for the region this month which is equivalent to one flying hour per day.
Recoter said “the 45 flying hours costs P2.6 million, which covers the rental for the plane, payment for flight crew, aviation fuel and the salt.”
She said the bidding for the cloud seeding operation was granted to Cebu-based aviation firm, Far East.
Nine local government units in Davao Region have already declared state of calamity, including Kapalong, Sto Tomas and Panabo City in Davao del Norte, Mati City, Tarragona, Lupon and San Isidro for Davao Oriental, Montevista in Compostela Valley and Hagonoy for Davao del Sur. (davaotoday.com)
