DAVAO CITY – Davao Light and Power Corporation (DLPC) is still not lifting its implementation of 3 to 4 hours power interruptions during peak periods and an hour during off peak due to the continuing Preventive Maintenance Servicing of a unit of STEAG until August 16.

DLPC also cited the reasons why there were no rotating brownouts implemented since last Saturday (August 1) including “lower demand due to cooler temperature.”

DLPC said the Therma South Inc. helps it alleviate the current shortage of power situation.

“We have been receiving commissioning power from TSI. But since they are still in the testing and commissioning stage, their operations could be off and on anytime. We could not rely that we could get power them all the time until they become fully operational or once they have reached commercial operations,” said DLPC in a statement Saturday.

It also said Pulangi Hydro Plan is in reduced capability due to water constraint and some units of Agus hydro plant are in emergency shutdown adding to the reasons why power interruptions are not yet lifted.

“We will continue to implement contingency measures such as running the Bajada Power Plant, optimizing on supply agreements with Therma Marine Inc. and Hedcor hydro power plants and activating the Interruptible Load Program in order to mitigate the impact of the supply shortage,” DLPC said.

DLPC will implement rotating brownouts from August 10-16.

Schedule of rotating brownouts provided by DLPC.

DLPC said the exact time when the outage will begin “cannot be determined, and the duration may be from 3-4 hours or lesser depending on the level of curtailment imposed by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines at any given time of the day and the variability of the load of Davao Light relative to time of the day.”

DLPC also said that a power interruption outside the schedule “is not part of the rotating power interruptions”. To report occurrences of such emergency power interruption, consumers may call (082) 229-3572 or (084) 822-3572.(davaotoday.com)
