The Asian Institute of Management (AIM) brings to Davao a four-day course that would help improve management capabilities of mostly Davao family-owned companies.
Nicholas Dy, chairman of the AIM Alumni Association (AIMAA) Davao Chapter at Club 888 Forum of The Marco Polo Hotel on Wednesday said bringing in to Davao the short-term course on Managing Family Corporations is their commitment to uplift the managerial capability of business players in the area.
With the absence of short-term quality management education we deemed it necessary to spearhead such activity here, he said.
He said the course is offered at AIM in Manila and they noticed that several Davao based corporations regularly send representatives to take the course.
Doing it here would be at their advantage firstly because of lesser cost. Now is the chance for those entrepreneurs who cannot afford to be away for long because they personally manage their business operation, he said.
He said the course is design for family-corporation (Famcor) and it is the same course that is offered in Manila.
Other Famcor Faculties are Prof. Jacinto Gavino, Jr., Ph.D., Prof. Milagros Du-Lagrosa, Prof. Francisco L. Roman, Jr., DBA, Prof. Felipe B. Alfonso, Prof. Horacio M. Borromeo, Jr., Prof. Teodoro Ma. P. Dizon, Prof. Maya B. Herrera, and Prof. Ning S. Lagman.
The activity will be held on May 22 to 25 at the Waterfront Insular Hotel with distinguished faculty led by Prof. Ma. Virginia B. Quintos-Gonzales as program director. She has been the research champion of the Managing Family Corporations Program in AIM and handled the program at AIM since it was launched in 1998.
Dy said the family business management course will help identify and analyze the key issues and challenges of family corporations. It will allow the participant to understand the distinctive qualities and interrelationships of family corporations as well as recognize potential areas for improvement within the family business.
Content of the course include, family systems Genogram, Individuation, Power, Conflict Management, Family Theories, Appreciative Inquiry and Family Assessment, and Management Conflicts in the Family. The business system covers Succession, Professionalization and Corporate Culture, Boards and Governance and Managing Transitions.
