DAVAO CITY – After the merrymaking during the Kadayawan Festival, power interruptions in the city are back this week until the end of the month, Davao Light announced Wednesday.
In a statement sent to media, Davao Light and Power Company said they are advising their customers of the possible power interruptions until the end of the month of August as the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced yesterday of another critical power supply situation in Mindanao.
DLPC said the NGCP advised that lack of power supply is due to the emergency shutdown of various units of the hydro generating plants in Mindanao.
“From the Davao Light’s supply contract with the National Power Corporation-Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management (NPC-PSALM) of 272 MW, NPC through the NGCP only allocated 218 MW as of August 25,” DLPC said.
DLPC said there will also be a 5-day power supply testing on the grid of the Therma South Inc.’s (TSI) 150-MW coal-fired power plant which started on Tuesday.
“This test is in preparation of TSI’s commercial operations that will supply additional power to Mindanao including the Davao Light franchise,”said DLPC.
The DLPC said they will be implementing a 30-minute to an hour of rotating power interruptions “in areas within its franchise, only if the need arises.”
“In a worst case, the power interruptions may extend up to a maximum of two hours,” it added.
The DLPC said they will “optimize its embedded power plants namely the Hedcor Sibulan and Talomo hydropower plants and its supply agreement with the Therma Marine Inc.’s power barges” to avoid longer service disruptions.
The DLPC will also run its Bajada Power Plant and activate the Interruptible Load Program.
The Davao Light said they are expecting a more stable power supply on September.
