DAVAO CITY – The Davao Light and Power Co. would begin its project of transferring cables underground after the Araw ng Dabaw festivities next month, the city government here said.
“They will start digging after Araw ng Dabaw to avoid disturbance from the many activities,” Atty. Joey Felizarta of the City Legal Office’s Transportation Regulation said on Thursday.
The Davao Light, Davao City Water District, Traffic Management Center, telecommunication and cable companies, and the business sector, have conducted joint inspection “as to which wirings will be affected”.
The city government has set a December deadline of the project at the city of the City Hall.
“That will be the first phase of the project. After that, they can already extend,” Felizarta said.
Felizarta said the underground cable system would keep the streets “from a messy sight and keep them attractive to tourists”.
He clarified that the city would not spend on the project but pointed at the Davao Light, the project holder, as likely to spend more than P70 million.
“Only the Davao Light and has budget for that. The city government is not spending for that project.” (davaotoday.com)
