DAVAO CITY — Marco Polo Hotel Davao was awarded Child Labor Free title besting other top companies all over the country. The search was organized by the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP).
During the Club 888 business and tourism forum last Wednesday, Marco Polo Hotel general manager Stanley Lao of Davao disclosed that they bested the award against other big multi-national companies around the Philippines like Johnsons & Johnsons and Globe Telecom.
Chona Lizada, human resource manager of Marco Polo Davao said they really went through a tedious screening from documentation to interviews before a battery of judges.
She said that prior to the final interview, the search committee conducted its own validation of the documents and facts submitted to them by conducting interview on the field without them knowing it.
She said the search committee paid particular attention to the companys program for childrens rights and protection.
I think with the hotels consistent program on advocating the rights and protection of
Children gave us the edge plus our policy against prostitution, she said.
Lizada said Marco Polo does not only limit its participation to one time event but also focuses on health and education.
She said the hotel has also a strong program on reproductive health for its workers. Given such it follows that workers who are also parents assume responsibility of advocating childrens rights and protection, she added.
Meanwhile, Lao said they had opened their hotel to students from far-flung areas for them to know about the industry, how the hotel operates and the kind of services and visitors the hotel caters.
The hotel believes that their exposure here is an experience and a good learning process, he said.
He said this is aside from the regular internship they offer to students taking up hotel management.
For the trainees, he said they make sure that they are being coach and monitored closely by them so that when they leave the hotel they have learn something from the hotel. (PIA/prixdbanzon) davaotoday.com
