DAVAO CITY, Philippines – A women’s group here asked the Davao City Council to sponsor an ordinance for the city’s breast cancer awareness campaign.
“This advocacy has been an international campaign so we would like to request the honorable Council to help us raise the awareness to all Dabawenyos,” Twinkle Gamboa, president of Rotary Club, told the City Council during its regular session Tuesday.
If passed the ordinance provides that a citywide Breast Cancer Awareness campaign will be observed annually every October.
In the Philippines, breast cancer ranked second as the most common form of cancer among women.
Gamboa called for the active involvement of the government, civic groups and private sectors to amplify the Rotary Club’s educational campaign.
“We know that in whatever disease, early detection and sufficient educational and informational campaigns play a key role in saving more lives,” she said.
The Rotary Club of Davao started its breast cancer awareness campaign four years ago. (davaotoday.com)
