Survivors of Typhoon Yolanda (International name: Haiyan) covered the streets of Tacloban with thousands of white ribbons today as a reminder for the public of the ‘purity’ of the Pope and the truth about the survivors’ situation which they would want to raise.
Volunteers from the People’s Welcome – Eastern Visayas dramatized the plight of their fellow disaster survivors by “wearing mud on their bodies while tying white ribbons around the streets of Tacloban.”
According to convener Dr. Efleda Bautista, they hope to convey a “simple gesture of welcoming Pope Francis with a humble ribbon, in contrast to the layers of expensive and expansive print banners by businesses and politicians.”
The group was joined by religious and indigenous people’s group from Mindanao.
