DAVAO CITY, Philippines—Barely a week before Christmas, the Eastern Mindanao Command here announced that at least 700 military personnel will be deployed to secure Davao city all throughout the holiday seasons.
Army Maj. Ezra Balagtey, pokesperson for the Eastern Mindanao Command, said the soldiers would be dispatched in strategic points in the city and in areas where there is a convergence of people such as the Sta. Ana Church and San Pedro Cathedral.
“Our military personnel are ready to secure Davao city to thwart any signs of terrorism,” Balagtyy said. He added that the military has also coordinated with Davao City Police Office to augment the state security forces.
The DCPO will also be deploying 125 police officer to roam around the city.
In a phone interview with Davao today, Catherine Dela Rey, spokesperson of Davao City Police Office (DCPO) said they already implemented their security plan earlier this month and is expected to end on December 31.
She added that police assistance desks will be put-up in some areas to heighten security. (davaotoday.com)
