DAVAO CITY – A popular television and movie actor said that the country’s “only hope” in order for it to wade through its problems is if Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte would win as the next elected President.

Actors Robin Padilla and brother Rommel, in an interview with some members of the Davao media, said they liked Duterte’s stance on issues such as federalism and the war in Mindanao.

“He stands by his word. Look at Davao City, it is clean from all sorts of garbage, from garbage and those that should be thrown as garbage,” said Padilla.

Padilla said he would support Duterte “just like how I supported the campaign of FVR in the past (former President Fidel Valdes Ramos).”

Padilla, however, admitted that they “have failed to convince Duterte to run as President (hindi po namin talaga mapwersa si mayor na tumakbo).”

“He said to us directly that he is still wating for the sign of God,” he said.

The actor also sees a movie about Duterte’s life story should be made, adding that “I hope he would allow us to create a film about him so we can give inspiration to the people.”

Duterte thanked the Padilla brothers to “whom I know, have been supporting me for a long time.”

“We are friends but we are not that close so for somebody to say something that sumptuous about you, it has to be about gratitude,” he said.

With regards to the movie on his life, Duterte said he “has to consult some people because there are certain things in my life which I cannot show (in the movie).”

Padilla said he supports the federalism campaign of Duterte saying, “we Muslims see this as hope, especially now that the passage of BBL (Bangsamoro Basic Law) is unclear (lumalabo).”

Asked how he thinks the people from Manila, the Philippines capital city, look at the situation of Mindanao, Padilla said that the country’s “very much enslaved by Imperial Manila.”

“The mainstream media in Manila is what is believed at by the people. Maybe, for now, the people in Manila are lost (ligaw),” he said.

He said that in the country, “only the opinions of politicians who have no experience of war are given attention.”
Padilla said that the peacetalks “should never be abandoned.”

“If the peacetalks will stop, it will hurt our economy,”he said.(davaotoday.com)
