DAVAO CITY— The City Council here hoped that President-elect Rodrigo Duterte would approve the city resolution on the Mega Harbor reclamation project before he sits down as the President of the Philippines.

There are three more regular sessions left before the 17th City Council ends and City Councilor Jimmy Dureza said that he hoped Duterte will sign it.

“We are hoping that President-elect Duterte will sign the ordinance and the joint venture agreement before his oath-taking,” Dureza said.

Dureza assured that the 200-hectare reclamation project will observe the 40-meter distance away from the coastline, the area where many informal setters reside.

“The affected families will be those who are near the road, caused by road expansion of the reclamation areas,” Dureza said

The reclamation project has gained the approval at many councilors with 17 of councilors voted for it except for Councilor Leah Librado-Yap.

“I still voted no because I still want to see the implementation of this particular project. I don’t want to compromise those who will lose their homes,” she said.

The P40-billion Mega Harbor project is a joint venture between the City Government of Davao and Mega Harbour Development Corporation owned by Renghis Romero II.

It will cover the area from the Sta. Ana wharf to Bucana, which ends at the Davao Gulf where the Davao River flows. (davatoday.com)
