DAVAO DEL NORTE, Philippines—The Communist Party of the Philippines denied the allegations of President Rodrigo Duterte that the revolutionary group conspired with the Liberal Party to overthrow his administration.
The CPP said the President’s statement is an attempt to “clampdown on all political opposition and all other forces” standing up against an authoritarian rule.
In a statement on Saturday, October 7 the CPP said it has no formal alliance with the Liberal Party, but it recognized that their initiatives and actions are “serving the same purpose of resisting Duterte’s tyranny.”
With Duterte’s conspiracy claim, the CPP said that he intends to “monopolize political power” and to “silence all who disagree.”
“His triple war of death and destruction, his fascist and bureaucrat capitalist rule, corruption and US subservience have roused widespread people’s resistance. Calls for his ouster continue to mount,” it said.
Meanwhile, lawmakers under the Makabayan bloc argued that the Left has no alliance with the “Yellow”, referring to the previous administration.
“It seems that Pres. Duterte is weaving tall tales as a prelude to a crackdown on his critics and the opposition and nationwide martial rule,” the bloc said in a statement.
The progressive lawmakers bolted from the House majority in Congress on September 14, but it said it did not join the “Liberal Party bloc” called the Magnificent Seven. (davaotoday.com)
