DAVAO CITY — This city’s police chief, Senior Superintendent Vicente Danao Jr. said he has not yet received any confirmation on his reported assignment to head the country’s illegal drug crimes.
As of Monday, May 16, Danao said that he has not received any confirmation yet from President-elect Rodrigo Duterte.
“But if that will be the mandate of the President to give me the task of solving crimes, especially on drugs, I (will) work on the pleasure of the President. I’m very much willing to give my best,” Danao said.
Duterte said a press conference that he was assigning Danao to the task.
If the assignment is confirmed, he plans “to use the whole government approach, which is the approach used in the city right now”.
“The dealing against drugs will be a whole government approach and it should be participated by all government agencies such as Customs, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Department of Health (DOH),” he said.
He said he would tap these agencies to eradicate drug menace in the country. Danao has warned the drug pushersand the drug lord “to stop the illegal activities that they are doing right now”.
“If you will not stop your illegal drug activity, then definitely your life will stop too, just a warning,” Danao said.
Danao said that he haven’t seen the list yet of persons involved in illegal drugs that Duterte asked from the PDEA, but he said he already know some people involved.
“If you will deal with our law enforcement then you will fight it out with them, so if you are in the list and still dealing with drugs then I’m sorry on what will happen to you,” Danao said.
Salary increase
Meanwhile, Danao said that Duterte’s statement on increasiing salaries off the police and the military “would be a huge help to the police and the military”.
“Salary increase is a huge help to my fellow policemen and military, but I know that there is a consequence to that and that is to deliver services that is needed to the community,” he said. (davaotoday.com)
