DAVAO CITY, Philippines — City council passed this Tuesday a resolution allowing the local government of Davao to hand over P7.8 million in financial assistance to typhoon-stricken areas in Luzon and the Visayas.
The council approved to give P1 million each for the provinces of Albay, Sorsogon, Camarines Sur and Occidental, Oriental Mindoro, Northern Samar, and Catanduanes.
About 100,000 families have been affected by the typhoon in the provinces of Albay, Sorsogon, Camarines Sur and Occidental, Oriental Mindoro and 600,000 have been affected in Northern Samar.
Agriculture has reportedly been severely damaged in the province of Catandunes.
The city will give separate assistance for the City of Calbayog (P500,000) and the Municipality of Arteche in Eastern Samar (P300,000).
Damages in residential areas, as well as in infrastructure and agriculture in Calbayog were reported, while Arteche has 4,592 families affected.
The P7.8 million assistance came from the 5 percent Local Risk Reduction and Management Fund under the 30 percent Quick Reaction Fund of the City of P130.965 million for Calendar Year 2019.
Davao City local government has already utilized P86 million assistance for different provinces, cities and municipalities affected by calamities this year.
Alfredo Baloran, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) chief said the city still has available fund of P44.3 million this year.
“We still have remaining funds for the city. This is our standby fund especially that its rainy season,” Baloran said. (davaotoday.com)
