DAVAO CITY – The City Government will spend P600 million this year to buy new dump trucks and garbage bins, the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro), said.
Cenro chief, Engr. Elisa Madrazo, said that the amount will cover the purchase of 11 dump trucks and 13,000 garbage bins, and the repair of nine compactors.
Madrazo said Mayor Rodrigo Duterte wanted bigger garbage bins to avoid instances of being carried by flood or being used privately by residents.
“Magprepare mi og operational manual for proper usage sa atoang mga bins. Kay para guided gyod sila, kay ang nahitabo man gud before mura gud kanang gi-deploy nalang without any policies or what (We will prepare an operational manual for proper usage of the bins so that they will be properly guided. Before, these were just given without any policy),” Madrazo said.
New dump trucks and garbage bins are expected to be out after the first quarter of the year and Madrazo said this shouldimprove the collection of the city’s tons of garbage.
“So far ang average nato is almost 500 (tons), categorized man gud atong basura karon, katong residual lang na siya ha. Another type of waste nato is kanang mga tree cuttings, lahi pa na siya. Kanang mga buko shells, lahi pud na sya nga category (We average almost 500 tons daily, categorized into residuals alone. We also have tree cuttings, buko shells),”Madrazo said.
She disclosed that some barangays do not fully implement the law that’s why Cenro “continues to campaign on waste reduction and the implementation of Solid Waste Management”.
Madrazo said they would start a “grading” system among the barangays to determine which of them implement it or not. (davaotoday.com)
